AESTURA, AMOREPACIFIC’s authentic dermocosmetic brand, participated as an official sponsor of KDD 2026, one of the world’s most prestigious AI conferences, where it presented advances in its AI skin diagnosis service and demonstrated its research capabilities at the intersection of dermatological science and artificial intelligence.
KDD (Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining) 2026 Korea Day, held on August 11 at the Jeju International Convention Center, brought together approximately 3,500 AI experts and developers from around the world, including major AI companies in Korea. AESTURA joined a special session to share the results of its enhanced AI skin diagnosis service, which integrates dermatologist-based diagnostic criteria, and to present its future vision.
During the session, Professor Hye-Sung Kim of the Department of Dermatology at The Catholic University of Korea Incheon St. Mary’s Hospital, who serves as an advisory professor for AESTURA’s advisory research group, and Jonghoon Ahn, Head of AMOREPACIFIC AX Division, delivered a joint presentation titled “Dermatology, Decoded by AI: Integrating Dermatologist Expertise into Everyday Skincare.” Professor Kim introduced a case study of an advanced AI engine that applies real-world diagnostic criteria used by dermatologists and expands beyond conventional skin analysis to enable precise diagnosis across a total of 33 categories. Her research team built a clinical dataset for AI training based on approximately 750 patient cases and around 1,000 general consumer cases from AMOREPACIFIC’s clinical lab, with dermatologists directly conducting labeling and de-identification. Through this process, the diagnostic scope was significantly expanded by training the system on 29 additional skin disease categories, alongside existing skin condition assessments such as pores, wrinkles, erythema, and pigmentation.
Jonghoon Ahn emphasized that beauty and dermatology share the common goal of achieving healthy skin, and positioned AI as the key technology connecting the two fields. He also outlined AESTURA’s mid- to long-term AI technology roadmap for advancing skin diagnosis and delivering personalized skincare experiences powered by AI.
Going forward, AESTURA plans to further enhance the accuracy of its AI skin diagnosis service by continuing to advance machine learning technologies and by training on sophisticated, real patient-based clinical big data using federated learning. Through these efforts, the brand aims to build a more precise AI skin diagnosis environment that allows consumers to experience feedback informed by dermatologist expertise in their everyday skincare routines.
