Improving Inner Dryness for Sensitive Skin

content detail

How can we care for sensitive skin during the increasingly intense sun in spring while ensuring moisturization?

AESTURA Derma Lab has answered the real skin concerns from our customers.

Q. I have dehydrated oily skin, and when I apply a lot of moisturizing cream to fix my inner dryness, I end up with breakouts because it doesn’t fully absorb. How can I make sure my soothing cream is completely absorbed?

A. Instead of applying a large amount at once, I recommend using smaller amounts more frequently. Even moisturizing creams contain oils, and when too much oil is applied to the skin, it can cause sebum production and breakouts.

Q. I have sensitive skin, and when I apply multiple layers of just one product, it feels like it evaporates quickly, leaving my skin still feeling dry from the inside. What should I do?

A. When your skin barrier is damaged, moisture can be lost through the damaged areas, making you feel like your skin is not hydrated enough. I suggest using products that contain hyaluronic acid for long-lasting hydration and pairing them with ceramide-based products that can help care for the skin barrier and lock in moisture.

Q. I frequently use a facial mist, but I’m curious if it really helps with inner dryness. I’ve heard that misting can actually make your skin drier. Is that true?

A. While facial mists can provide moisture, the mist can evaporate in a dry environment, taking your skin’s moisture with it, which can lead to increased dryness. After misting, make sure to gently pat it into your skin for better absorption and apply a moisturizer or cream afterward to form a barrier that locks in the moisture.

Q. Before applying makeup in the morning, I’m worried about my skin feeling tight from air conditioning all day. Is it okay to have different morning and evening skincare routines? I want to have dewy, hydrated skin without inner dryness this summer with AESTURA’s useful tips!

A. Even in summer, being exposed to an air-conditioned environment for extended periods can dry out your skin. If inner dryness is a concern, it is essential to deeply hydrate your skin from within and strengthen the skin barrier to prevent moisture loss, regardless of whether it’s morning or evening.

For dehydrated oily skin, when moisture is lost in a dry environment, the skin compensates by producing more oil. If you use matte makeup products to remove this oil, both the oil and the remaining moisture are stripped away, leading to a vicious cycle. Thus, it is important to break this vicious cycle.

It is advisable to use products containing hyaluronic acid for moisture supply and retention, and those with ceramides to strengthen the skin barrier, which helps to build a strong foundation for your skin. Plus, opting for hydrating makeup products rather than matte ones would be beneficial.
